We started the day driving over dirt roads for hours. Most of this region was hit with a massive wildfire a few years ago.
Every great day starts when you put your shoes on!
Ryan looks like the groom before the wedding. Excited, thoughtful, and maybe a little nervous.
You can never pack your bag too many times.
First things first - make sure your trip is legal
Beautiful wildflowers blanketed the trail head. I love the excitement and joy on their faces to get started.
We immediately entered aspen groves and passed through numerous beautiful stretches of trail throughout the trip.
We spent most of the first part of day steadily ascending from 8,250’ up to around 11,400’
We crossed streams more than a dozen times
When people are in love, they spend weird amounts of time looking at each other
Making silly faces seems to be par for the course
Do you think she suspects something?
When we first climbed on these rocks Ryan forgot the ring
Is it the altitude?
Everyone’s heart rate was elevated… but maybe it’s just the altitude
Look close, you’ll see the ring box in Ryan’s hand!
Is that a yes?
She didn’t even look at the ring!
Ryan actually had to ask again… is that a yes? She said of course!
She sees it
That moment when she actually looked at the ring
Emily always said she just wanted something small and simple… till she saw what he had picked out
I love how she is looking at him in this photo
A truly amazing rose gold ring
It’s amazing how the rock matches the ring. It’s like the place where the engagement happened harmonized with the moment.
Over the Clouds
Love has taken them over the clouds and they’re on top of the world.
We came down off the mountain top and walked another 5 or 6 miles and finally camped in this aspen grove next to a babbling stream.
After being hounded by my camera all day, Emily and Ryan snuck off for a quiet moment, but I think they saw me.
After the eclipsing joy of the mountain, there is quiet peace by a stream. We actually had beers chilling in the water and let me tell you, it was ICE cold.
“Ok, maybe just look at each other”
Hand in Hand
Forward into a beautiful future they couple goes!
This moment, kissed by the sun, in the midst of sheer beauty, feels so sacred to me.
I'll Carry You
When they were getting engaged, Ryan said “I want to spend the rest of my life hiking with you. I’ll push you up the mountain in a wheel chair if I have to, as long as I can be with you”
They never got tired of looking at each other.
The last rays of sun catch the Aspen leaves over our tents as we drift off to sleep.
The next day we hiked 10 miles through some elegant rolling trails with the most perfect stream passing through a valley.
Found: One Love
In the Lost Creek Wilderness, two people found one true love on a perfect two days in the middle of June.
